Northrop Grumman has secured a contract from the US Army to advance its Improved Threat Detection System (ITDS) into the next development phase. Designed to enhance pilot awareness, ITDS detects incoming threats that may not be visible to crews and integrates with countermeasure systems for rapid response. Built around the ATHENA multispectral sensor, the system provides continuous 360-degree coverage and can identify a wide range of threats, including drones and missile systems. The next phase will focus on prototype delivery, system integration, and flight testing across rotary-wing platforms.
