India is preparing to issue a Request for Proposal to Dassault Aviation for the acquisition of 114 multi-role fighter aircraft, marking a significant step in modernizing the Indian Air Force. The program includes 18 aircraft in flyaway condition and 96 to be manufactured domestically with substantial indigenous content. This dual approach addresses immediate operational needs while building long-term industrial capability. The project is crucial for restoring squadron strength as older aircraft are phased out. It also emphasizes technology transfer and local industry participation, potentially transforming India’s aerospace manufacturing ecosystem.
