The Tata-Airbus military aircraft facility in Gujarat is reportedly preparing for the rollout of India’s first locally assembled C-295 tactical transport aircraft, marking a historic moment for the nation’s private aerospace manufacturing sector. The program stems from a 2021 agreement between India and Airbus for 56 aircraft, with 40 platforms designated for assembly within India. The project has significantly strengthened domestic aerospace supply chains, with Indian companies producing thousands of components for the aircraft. Designed for troop transport, logistics, humanitarian assistance, and special operations, the C-295 offers short takeoff and landing performance suited for rugged airstrips and remote operational environments. The program is viewed as a landmark achievement in India’s drive toward defense indigenization and advanced aerospace manufacturing capabilities.
