The US Air Force’s Collaborative Combat Aircraft initiative has taken another step forward after General Atomics demonstrated communication and control links between an F-35 fighter and the MQ-20 Avenger drone. The test showcased how manned aircraft could coordinate with autonomous unmanned systems using advanced tactical data links and autonomy software. Designed to support future loyal wingman operations, the demonstration reflects the Pentagon’s focus on integrating AI-enabled drones into future air combat operations alongside frontline fighter aircraft.
