Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL) has achieved a major milestone with the delivery of the 1000th indigenously produced T-90(IM) Bhishma tank to the Indian Army from its Heavy Vehicles Factory facility in Avadi. The achievement highlights India’s progress in localizing critical armored vehicle technologies under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. AVNL has reportedly achieved around 80 percent localization across the platform, including power systems, electrical equipment, cooling systems, and numerous complex line replacement units. The production process now incorporates upgraded indigenous components and advanced engineering solutions designed to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers. The T-90 Bhishma continues to serve as a key element of India’s armored forces alongside the T-72 Ajeya and Arjun fleets. This landmark delivery not only strengthens the Army’s operational readiness but also demonstrates the maturity of India’s defense manufacturing ecosystem, providing long-term support, modernization capability, and supply chain resilience for one of the country’s most important combat platforms.
