The UK’s Hybrid Air Vehicles (HAV) has received its first defense-related reservation for the Airlander 10, with three hybrid airships ordered by an undisclosed contractor.
The deal marks the Airlander’s entry into military service, with applications focused on long-endurance surveillance and transport.
Powered by its hybrid lift and propulsion system, the aircraft can remain airborne for up to five days and deploy from unprepared or aquatic surfaces.
Thanks to its modular structure, it can switch between ISR, troop transport, cargo delivery, or drone deployment roles.
Each unit carries over three tonnes of payload, ideal for high-end radar or sensor suites.
With a quieter and cooler operational profile than conventional aircraft, Airlander 10 offers both stealth and fuel efficiency.
HAV believes this order could pave the way for additional defense customers seeking affordable, persistent aerial capability.
