Romania has finalized a €223-million ($260 million) deal with Turkey to procure a HISAR-class corvette, complete with crew training and full lifecycle support. The purchase is tied to Romania’s naval modernization initiative, which aims to strengthen maritime security and enhance operational capabilities in the increasingly contested Black Sea region. The Ministry of National Defence confirmed that the contract includes the vessel’s cost, training programs, and logistical support to ensure immediate readiness. The acquisition received approval from key national defense bodies earlier in 2025. Designed as a versatile 2,300-ton warship, the HISAR-class corvette is optimized for multi-domain maritime warfare. It features a 99-meter hull, a 76 mm main gun, RAM launchers, triple torpedo tubes, and advanced remote weapon stations. Its sensor suite integrates modern 3D radar, sonar, and electronic warfare systems to detect and track airborne and surface threats with precision. Turkish HISAR corvettes have a strong operational record, supporting NATO activities and conducting real-world security missions in the Mediterranean and Aegean. They are frequently deployed to protect critical sea lanes and offshore installations, reinforcing their value as adaptable, mission-flexible naval assets for Romania.
