Poland is set to provide Ukraine with up to nine MiG-29 fighter jets in the initial tranche, slightly below earlier expectations of ten aircraft. Government approval has been granted, and the focus is now on technical arrangements, including maintenance, aircraft condition, and coordination with the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense.

Deputy defense officials have highlighted that the jets being transferred are nearing the end of their operational life in Poland and are scheduled for retirement. The move allows Warsaw to support Ukraine’s defense without compromising its own air capabilities, which are being modernized with FA-50 light combat aircraft and future F-35s.
