Turkey is considering deploying F-16 fighter jets to Northern Cyprus as part of potential security measures following a recent drone attack on the island. A Turkish defense ministry source said the proposal is being evaluated after an Iranian-made drone struck a British base on Cyprus earlier in the week. Cypriot authorities believe the drone was likely launched by Hezbollah from Lebanon rather than directly from Iran. The incident occurred amid rising tensions across the Middle East following US-Israeli strikes on Iran, which triggered a series of retaliatory actions across the region. Several European countries have since pledged assistance to Cyprus by deploying air defense systems and other military assets. Turkey’s Defense Minister Yasar Guler said the likelihood of a direct military confrontation between Turkey and Israel remains very low despite ongoing political disagreements between the two countries.
