Sikorsky, in partnership with DARPA, has transferred its UH-60Mx Black Hawk to the US Army for advanced testing. The aircraft, developed through the ALIAS initiative, features the Matrix autonomy system that enables independent or remotely supervised operations. It enhances flexibility by automating flight tasks while allowing pilots to focus on critical decisions. Capabilities include obstacle avoidance, landing-zone detection, and real-time terrain mapping. The platform introduces fly-by-wire controls with optional piloting, improving efficiency and reducing crew requirements. Testing will assess its role in future autonomous aviation programs and its potential to standardize scalable autonomy across military aircraft.
