Peru has ordered another Leonardo C-27J Spartan tactical transport aircraft, expanding its fleet to five aircraft as the country strengthens disaster response, medical evacuation, and logistics capabilities in remote regions. Scheduled for delivery in 2027, the aircraft will be Peru’s first Spartan in the upgraded “Next Generation” configuration, featuring enhanced avionics and aerodynamic improvements designed to improve fuel efficiency and operational performance. Since entering service in 2015, Peru’s Spartan fleet has accumulated nearly 16,000 flight hours supporting missions across the Andes and isolated areas with limited infrastructure. The aircraft’s ability to operate from short, rugged, and poorly equipped airstrips has made it central to the country’s humanitarian relief and transport operations. Leonardo noted that the latest purchase marks the 100th C-27J procured worldwide among 21 operators.
