Taiwan has reported a significant increase in Chinese maritime activity, with more than 100 naval, coast guard, survey, and auxiliary vessels deployed across waters stretching from the Yellow Sea to the South China Sea and the Western Pacific. According to Taiwanese officials, the deployment expanded following a summit between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. The large-scale presence has intensified concerns in Taipei regarding regional security and China’s continued pressure campaign against the island. Taiwan remains heavily reliant on US military support and arms sales to maintain deterrence against potential Chinese military action. The development comes amid ongoing debates over defense spending, with thousands of demonstrators in Taipei supporting increased military investment. Chinese authorities continue to oppose US arms sales to Taiwan, while Taiwanese officials maintain that such sales remain an important component of Washington’s longstanding security commitment to the island.
