V2X has secured an $87 million US Navy contract to refurbish and modernize SUU-79 pylons installed on F/A-18E/F Super Hornet and EA-18G Growler aircraft. These underwing components provide the mounting and release capability required for weapons and other external stores. V2X has been involved in sustaining Navy F/A-18 systems since the aircraft family entered service in the 1980s. Under the agreement, the company will apply updated repair and lifecycle-support techniques to the SUU-79 fleet. The objective is to extend the operational life of the pylons and help ensure that naval aviation units can continue relying on their aircraft. The work will take place in Indianapolis, Indiana, and is scheduled for completion by January 2030. Although the pylon is a relatively small aircraft component, it performs a critical operational function. Its reliability is necessary for carrying and deploying weapons and stores, making modernization important to the readiness of the Navy’s Super Hornet and Growler fleets.
