The UK Ministry of Defence has selected Anduril UK, BAE Systems, Tekever, and Thales to develop autonomous drone concepts for the British Army’s Apache helicopter wingman program under Project NYX. The initiative seeks to pair AH-64E Apache attack helicopters with AI-enabled uncrewed aircraft capable of reconnaissance, strike, target acquisition, and electronic warfare missions. The four firms will share 10 million pounds to refine their concepts, with two finalists expected to be chosen in 2026 for prototype development. The operational system could enter service by 2030, supporting reduced operating costs and improved survivability for crewed helicopters.
