Estonia has entered into a defense cooperation agreement with South Korea to acquire the K239 Chunmoo multiple launch rocket system (MLRS), aimed at strengthening its long-range strike capabilities.

Developed by Hanwha Aerospace, the Chunmoo will complement Estonia’s six US-supplied HIMARS launchers, which were ordered in 2022 and officially delivered in January 2025. The NATO member, sharing a border with Russia, is also pursuing additional HIMARS units.

Upon delivery, Estonia will become the second European operator of the Chunmoo system after Poland.

Poland initially ordered over 200 Chunmoo MLRS units in October 2022 to operate alongside its HIMARS launchers and followed up with a second order for 72 systems in April 2024.

The first K239 launcher arrived in Poland in 2023, where it was designated “Homar-K.”

In April 2025, Polish defense company WB Electronics partnered with Hanwha Aerospace to begin domestic production of Chunmoo missiles within three years, with future plans to export to other European markets.

By September, Sweden’s Saab had also joined forces with Hanwha to explore integrating the Ground-Launched Small Diameter Bomb (GLSDB) into the Chunmoo platform.
