Indonesia is considering expanding its planned procurement of India’s BrahMos supersonic cruise missile system by acquiring additional coastal defense batteries under a phased procurement strategy. Discussions are expected to advance during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Indonesia, reflecting Jakarta’s focus on strengthening maritime security and deterrence in the Indo-Pacific. Beyond the missile acquisition, both countries are exploring broader defense industrial cooperation covering technology transfer, joint research, and manufacturing partnerships. The potential deal would further reinforce India’s defense export ambitions while enhancing Indonesia’s ability to safeguard its maritime interests, particularly around the Natuna Islands.
