France will provide Ukraine with a replacement radar unit for its SAMP/T air defense system while an existing radar undergoes repairs, ensuring continuity in Kyiv’s long-range air defense coverage. French Armed Forces Minister Catherine Vautrin confirmed the move, noting that radar availability depends on industrial production timelines. Paris is coordinating with MBDA to repair the damaged component while temporarily supplying another radar to prevent capability gaps. The SAMP/T, developed by the Eurosam consortium led by MBDA and Thales, integrates multifunction radar systems with Aster 30 interceptors capable of engaging aircraft, cruise missiles, and tactical ballistic missiles at extended ranges. France and Italy remain the system’s principal operators, with next-generation variants scheduled for delivery beginning in 2026. Italy has also deployed SAMP/T batteries under NATO rotations in Lithuania and plans similar deployments in Estonia. Denmark selected the SAMP/T NG in 2025, expanding its user base. France’s decision underscores sustained long-term military backing for Ukraine’s air defense resilience.
