The US Army has partnered with Tiberius Aerospace to accelerate development of the Sceptre, a liquid-ramjet-powered 155mm artillery projectile designed to strike targets at ranges of up to 150 kilometers. The Cooperative Research and Development Agreement with the Army’s DEVCOM Armaments Center represents the first US government partnership for the Sceptre program since its unveiling in 2025. Fired from NATO-standard 155mm howitzers, the projectile is designed to exceed Mach 3, reach altitudes above 65,000 feet and achieve accuracy within five meters, including in GPS-denied environments. Unlike conventional rocket-assisted artillery rounds, Sceptre uses a liquid-fueled ramjet to provide sustained propulsion throughout much of its flight. Its multi-fuel system can use military fuels such as diesel, JP-4 and JP-8. The projectile also features an open, software-defined architecture supported by Tiberius’ AI-enabled GRAIL platform, allowing future upgrades to guidance, targeting, autonomy and mission software without requiring a new launcher.
