Australia is accelerating sovereign missile manufacturing as NIOA and L3Harris renewed a strategic partnership to locally produce rocket motors and warheads. The agreement builds on a 2023 initiative supporting domestic manufacture of key missile components under Canberra’s Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance plan. Officials said the effort supports the national goal of establishing local guided weapons capability by 2030. Planned production focuses on propulsion systems and warheads used in cruise missiles and air defense interceptors. The partnership is part of a wider push that already includes local GMLRS production and multi-billion-dollar government investment in a domestic missile industry.
